Meet the Hidden Heroes
Meet the remarkable Louise and Ann, both of whom have spent many years volunteering in the community with Immanuel Church Southbourne. Louise was nominate specifically for her role with Songs for the Mind, a singing group for isolated elderly residents, people with dementia and their families and carers. Thanks to Citadines Trafalgar Square London, these 2 self-described colourful grannies enjoyed a break to remember!
The Nomination: Louise’s boundless energy and deep commitment to giving her time as a volunteer is unending. The Church does a great deal to support people suffering from dementia and helping their carers and family members. Each week, Louise runs our popular Songs For The Mind activity. She spends many hours researching and preparing the song sheets, linking them to a theme. Her patience and welcoming manner really help those who attend. Immanuel Church has been formally recognised for its work with dementia sufferers and Louise gives a lot of her time freely to be a part of this team. She is a stalwart member of our volunteer team and we are so grateful for all the years of service she has given.
In nominating Louise, the church team knew she would take Ann, another long-serving volunteer. The pair enjoyed a colourful, memorable trip to London.
As Louise says: “We are two very colourful, eccentric grandmas always hoping to bring a smile to everyone we meet. We loved our very comfy twin studio and the best breakfast we have ever eaten! We enjoyed everything – we had a visual and auditory visit to Marble Arch Immersive Exhibition, walked via China town to Covent Garden. A meandering walk back brought us to Trafalgar Square and a well earned sit down. So many activities to see and enjoy. A thoroughly enjoyable weekend. No wonder we couldn’t get up on Monday morning!”
